Oh My Goodness
Someone got us a PS3 for Christmas. So I've been catching up on the last two Mortal Kombats lately.
But looky what I saw announced for PlayStation Network (and Xbox Live Arcade):
Oh heck's yeah. The best Simpsons game, with the possible exception of Hit & Run. It includes a survivor mode (see how far you can get on one life) and the unlockable Japanese mode.
Available Feb 3rd (Xbox 360) and Feb 7th (PS3).

Laugh-O-Meter: The Simpsons S23E10
Welcome to a new feature of Tork Blog! Here, I watch an episode of a sitcom and record my honest reactions to it. Today's subject is "Politically Inept with Homer Simpson", which I whined about in an earlier post.
Laugh Total:
2 laughs.
1 smile.
1 almost laugh. You know when your face muscles start to move but don't quite reach a smile? Yeah, that.
The almost laugh came during Homer's dumb Bill O'Rielly show parody when he accidentally screams "Death to America." The two laughs came during the segment with James Madison trying to teach Homer about...something. Yeah, it was suppose to be about democracy, but honestly the whole episode was so toothless and vague. I forget what the smile was about, but it came during the last two acts.
Other than "Death to America", the first two acts were dreadful. The Fox News Ticker thing was especially lame. And Ted Nugent was chosen because...I don't know. Like I said, the episode was toothless.
(By the way, I would love to hear Lisa give an essay about why repealing the Seventeenth Amendment is a bad thing. Come on, let's hear Lisa's smartness for once instead of constantly hearing about it.)

I could do that.
But I'd probably die.
I'm talking about a contest by FOX to watch 86+ straight hours of The Simpsons. I could do it if I wasn't worried of my heart exploding on me.
To view the contest I was looking through the latest version of The Simpsons website. Do you remember what it was like during 2000? FOX had just released some episodes on VHS (FRIGGEN EXPENSIVE, TOO! Not that I'm bitter.) and dubbed the tenth year of the show as fandemonium or something. I think there was a donut on the front page or something. It had a forum, but oh boy was I not going to join that. Phew.
Anyway, it has a few episodes from the current season, which is cool, but should I point out that South Park, for example, hosts all their episodes on their website? Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, does this sound like the actions of a website for a fan whose had ALL he could watch? (That made sense in my head.)
I was looking through its character section. The short paragraphs for each character are accurate for the first few seasons. Which goes to show what happens when your series lasts 25 years. (Please, let me see the series finale.) And Martin Prince is NOT that important a character. Non-fans would be confused by that section.
This post is over. Go home.

They'll Never Stop the Simpsons
I honestly haven't been watching the Simpsons that much since the season after they released the movie. I did watch a couple episodes this year. (This being the show's twenty-third year. Yeesh, haven't you made enough money off non-enviromentally friendy action figures, Matt?) The last episode, Holidays of Future Passed, would actually make a decent Series Finale. (Poor Lisa, though. Nobody deserves Milhouse.)
So anyway, the next episode is called Politically Inept, With Homer Simpson. Hurray, I haven't cringed this hard at a premise since season 16 where they were making fun of the Janet Jackson Super Bowl thing.
Remember when there was this guy who had a show, and one day he said something really controversial. And by controversial, I mean ----ing stupid. And now he plays off his edginess by going on his HBO show and telling people what they want to hear? ("Those people we don't like are totally dumb!") Thanks for reminding us about that troll, jerks.
Actually, now that I think of it, it'd be a better episode if it took shots at political comedians than at dumb cable news op-ed shows. A Jon Stewart is probably worth 10 Keith Olbermanns (before he flamed out.) So yeah, that Bill O'Reilly is a bit of a blowhard, huh? That Glen Beck sure is crazy, huh? Anyway, Homer's show gets popular and he becomes the spokesman of the Gravy Movement....Ugh. Let's just call this episode Sideshow Bob Roberts mixed with the Homer half of Today I am a Clown and move on.
After that is The D'oh-cial Network. Way to keep up with the times, Simpsons' staff! Admittedly I just got into twitterthis last year, but I'm hoping Facebook is just a fad. Warning: Lisa episode. Also Patty and Selma do a thing?
The following episode is Moe Goes From Rags To Riches. Hey, Moe is a good character. I assume. They haven't ruined him, have they? Jeremy's Iron guess stars as a dish rag that takes Moe through time. And, I don't know, maybe they have a crazy wedding where do do do do do... I guess they're still working on this episode.
The five hundredths episode of the show is At Long Last Leave. Hey, Simpsons' writers? These "Haw, we've been on the air for too long!" jokes were cute back in the eighth season. Now? Yeah, we're not laughing with you. In fact, you know how for years we kind of laughed with you when you took shots at FOX and Rupert Murdock? Now some of us are old enough to realize that he gets rich off the show either way.
Oh, and they're going to have a Lady Gaga episode. Super.
Oh well, I'll at least watch the latter two episodes.
Oh wait, did they ever reveal what happened to Ned and Edna? That episode wasn't bad, if you ignore the dumb final 30 second cliffhanger thing. I guess I should have watched the episodes when they popped up on Hulu. Then again, I should be able to give only as much effort as the show gives.

A Typical Broadcast Day At The Simpsons Channel
There's a rumor that there could someday be a Simpsons channel. I've taken the liberty of programming the channel to save time for those involved:
The first 9 hours will be pretty good. Hours 10-14 will be wildly inconsistent. The next 5 hours will be absolutely dreadful, and the day will finish with the rest of the programming aiming for mediocrity because that's the best they can do.
Oh...and hour 13 is nothing but a National Geographic documentary featuring clips of a man repeatedly getting raped by a panda.

Oh yeah, Angry Dad: The Movie
I forgot that the sequel to the classic Simpson's episode (I Am Furious Yellow) was airing yesterday, so I watched it on Hulu. It was pretty good, but still suffers from the fact that it's no season 2-15 Simpson episode. It's probably better than the MacGuyver episode but not as great as the last Sideshow Bob episode. Loved the George C. Scott gag.

Lisa Simpson broke off her marriage today.
According to the episode Lisa's Wedding.
This show really is going to outlast us, isn't it? I'm thinking of having children just so someone with my DNA can see the final Simpson episode.

This Week In Entertainment (8/18/09)
My Pick of the Week is Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land. What more can I say? Math!
Also out this week is Season 12 of The Simpsons. At the time I thought this was the worst season they did, but I wish this series would get any reaction out of me now. I hope they include an apology for the panda rape episode in the commentaries. Regular set here.
In theaters this week is Plan Nine from Outer Space, riffed live by Rifftrax. I've mentioned this before. One night only on the 20th. I hope to be there at a local theater.
Also in theaters is a movie called Shorts. Didn't I already complain about some terrible looking kids film that looked like Spy Kids?
Are the X Games still around? Apparently if they're making a 3D movie about them. I blame the X Games for all those terrible extreme games made around the PlayStation era.
Out this week is not one but two movies about the war or whatever that went on in Ireland in the 70s and 80s. Why does Hollywood kill itself by posting two similar movies together so people end up seeing neither?
More like, Everybody Ignored UPN. Am I right?!
Awww, did little Jerry get jealous of little Danny?

This Week In Entertainment (10/6/08)
My Pick of the Week is the latest volume of Three Stooges shorts. This takes us up to 1945, a year before Curly's career ending stroke. I bet Curly-only fans are pissed that they have to buy another set filled with Shemp shorts to complete their collection.
Also out on DVD this week is The Simpsons Season 11. This is a good season but I'm starting to lose interest in these sets. The only reason - besides the uncut episodes - to get these things is for the commentaries, and I don't enjoy them anymore. I wish they would put the complete catalog of shorts on one of these sets.
Here's a 2-disc set of Disney's Sleeping Beauty, the greatest film about old women arguing over dresses ever. Does Disney still bother with the "buy it now or we lock it in the vault...FOR A FEW YEARS! BWAAAHAHAHAHAH!" thing anymore?
Here's The Smurfs Season One, Volume Two. The Smurfs were on for about a decade, but I'm sure splitting the sets into volumes was not done because the studios are greedy. Nope, not at all.
Even the Peanuts have gotten political.
I'll give this to The Munsters. They have a complete series set while The Addams Family has three separate volumes.
Around the time MST3k was cancelled, SciFi Channel started advertising for Lexx, a show that seemed to be Star Trek with innuendo. Heck, take a look at the damn ship. I remember how MSTies focused their shock and outrage from the cancellation onto this show. Good times.
Apparently this is a documentary about Indiana Jones fans. Dorks. At least it wasn't some fanfiction film like I original thought.
See, this is why you shouldn't complain when somebody takes your crappy childhood memory and turns it into a really crappy movie. You'll eventually get enough interest in your memory that some studio will release it all so you can relive your memory once more.
There's something about this DVD cover that disturbs me.

On the Virtual Console this week is more Mega Man 9 stuff. For 200 Wii poins you can download Proto Man as a playable character and for 300 Wii poins you can play Endless mode. Proto Man has a slide and a charge shot, but he takes more damage then Mega Man. This means you have to pay an extra 2 bucks just to have the features that Mega Man has always had since the fourth game, plus you're punished for it! By the way, I already tried these features. I got to my thirtieth screen in my best attempt in Endless Mode before I died. The leaderboard had someone reaching over 3000 screens. I'm this close to catching up.
Shining Force 2 is a game I bought after playing the great Shining Force Game Gear game. I thought I would enjoy SF2 more because it had towns, but the game eventually bored me. I don't like the random battles in a strategy game. Also, I found the ending to be very troubling. "Only a human can kiss her. No dwarves allowed." Yikes, could they at least establish that the different races couldn't mate or something? 8 Wii poins.
Mario Golf was a N64 game that was one of the ones that I think had the Game Boy to N64 gimmick. You had to buy another golf game to unlock stuff on the N64 version. I hope you really like golf. This rom, of course, wouldn't have that gimmick.
If there were any worthwhile Wii or DS games, I forgot what they are. Stupid websites that I use only post future stuff.
