The Eighteenth Day of Christmas...

Today's gift is an ordinary box used to hold NES games. I got it in 1991, probably. It's blue. It's clear. The price tag says that it was under a couple bucks.

Why am I showing this? Interesting story about this thing. One year I was sooooo sure I was going to get a Game Boy. I probably heard my parents whisper those two words and I just assumed I was going to get one. I was so sure that there was this one gift left out on a table that I was sure was proof that I was going to get a Game Boy. This gift dominated my thoughts up till Christmas so I never got a good look at any of the other gifts.

When Christmas came, I was given a choice of what to open first, and this gift was it. I was so expecting a Game Boy game, since the boxes for those was the same size as this thing. I was told by my parents that some relative gave them the money to buy a Game Boy, but they decided against it because they were worried it was going to ruin my sight. They bought this case because they thought someone was going to get me the NES version of Monopoly, which never happened. So I was left disappoined that year.

The very next year I got a Game Boy.

The Seventeenth Day of Christmas...

I hate going to the video game well again, but I'm going to do it two more times. Hopefully I can come up with non-video game stuff before the 24th. Today's gift is the Game Boy, which I got in 1992, probably.

When we first turned it on, we thought it wasn't working. That's because the contrast was set either too high or too low. Good one, Nintendo!

It wasn't long before it became very popular. I had to split on another Game Boy just to shut up my sister. Little sisters are annoying.

There's an interesting story behind how I got the Game Boy. That's for tomorrow.

This Week In Entertainment (12/17/07)

My Pick of the Week is The Simpsons Movies, a film that washed the awful season 18 finale out of my mouth. It also contains one of the lesser obnoxious environmental messages in the series, probably because it's an obvious one. I still think they should end the series, wait five years, then make movies, but this was a good one.

Also in time for Christmas is Blade Runner. I love this movie if only for the big Atari ad on one of the billboard. It's video games, OF THE FUTURE!

Underdog comes out and while it looks terrible I'll probably see it. Does he even rhyme?

I saw Rush Hour 3 in theaters. It was ok, but you'll have to give me a few minutes to recall more than the fact that it took place in France and involved the Eiffel Tower at one poin. I wish we could clone Jackie Chan.

Volume 2 of the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. I didn't watch the show for long so I wouldn't know anything about it. I guess they're referring to World War 2, but who knows?

I have to see this movie one time, if only to riff at it at Mel Gibson's expense. "But they'll never take away... my CRAAAAAZINESS!"

They're rereleasing National Treasures, which was ok. Say, is there a sequel coming out soon?

Here's something I don't get about Hollywood. Who looks at movies like Bring It On and think that it'll make a good franchise? Maybe if I was the target audience it would make more sense. By the way, wasn't the original movie about white vs black cheerleaders? Did the whites win at some poin?

This looks like one of those foul-mouthed online shows that lasts a few episodes before the website goes bankrupt. Anyway, it sounds like the kind of thing that Lita would write about.

Brain: Why am I even maintaining a blog!?!

Usually I don't link to pornographic movies, but I want to do it to this one because I find the title funny. I mean, look how lazy it is.

Out on the Wii this week is Nights: Journey Into Dreams. I wasn't a fan of the Saturn game but Wii nerds wanted a sequel so here we go. Hopefully Sega does a better job with it than they have with their recent Sonic titles.

Sunday, Lazy Sunday (12/16/07)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, A_JUDAS_RIMMER! I hope you like what I got you for your birthday/Christmas.

This was a good weekend for me. I got Super Mario Galaxy, Dallas lost, and I beat Kid Icarus yesterday. Here's my take on that game:

Kid Icarus is not a good game. It has slippery controls, it's short but frustrating, and it's not worth five bucks. I'm glad I played it, but it's no Metroid. I'm still glad they put Pit in Super Smash Bros Brawl if only because of his role on Captain N.

My Christmas shopping is almost over. I still have stuff to buy, but I think I'm going to go with gift certificates for those who I haven't bought gifts for. Maybe I'll mention who I got what for who after Christmas.

On the 26th I can list what I bought at the mall afterwards.

A note about my Christmas gifts: I don't know if I mentioned this, but I'm only listing gifts I received, not ones I bought. For example, I bought a GameCube with Christmas money the day after Christmas 2002, but I don't count that.

Happy week before Christmas!

The Sixteenth Day of Christmas...

Today's gift comes from 1984. This picture is probably the wrong box, but it gives you an idea of what the gift is. It's a plastic container for hotwheels and other car toys.

I had quite a few hotwheels. Hopefully a future entry will include a really cool toy, but I can't find a picture of it on the Internet.

Anyway, these containers had these blue things that you put all your cars on. The containers were shaped like lunchboxes so you can haul your cars around. I have an even bigger one of these that's shaped like a cube and has a bottom that you fold out which looks like a driveway.

Ironically, as of today I don't own a car. I guess I should remedy that sometime next year.
