Fifth Day of Christmas

Today's ornament is Superman bursting through his own paper. I guess the Daily Planet was trying new ideas to keep the readers from reading blogs. We also have an ornament with Clark doing the same thing.

This is a more recent ornament. We have this because my dad is a huge fan of Superman. We also have a phone booth ornament that you can twist so Clark turns into Superman. I thought about showing that one but I went with this instead.

Fourth Day of Christmas

Today's ornament is classic Mickey Mouse holding presents. As you can see he's sitting down and is wearing a present as a hat.

We used to have the Disney Channel back when you had to pay for it and it was good. My parents taped a lot of stuff off it so I watched a lot of those specials and movies on our old Beta machine. So it's safe to say that Mickey was apart of my childhood.

(If you're wondering why my hand is in all these pictures, it's because I had to hold the ornament up to a light to take the picture. I had to take many of these pictures at night to beat the deadline.)

Third Day of Christmas

Today's ornament is another Santa. In this case, he was part of a promotion from one store where they gave away several different Santas from the 20th century. This one is the famous Coca-Cola Santa. I think the earliest Santa was from 1903.

I'm holding this in a box because we never actually hung them on a tree. We just wanted to collect them all.

I forget which store gave this away. It was probably some high- to mid- scale department store that isn't around anymore.

Edit: I just checked the package and the price tag says Peebles. In fact, here's a site that seems to be dedicated to this particular set of statues and a lot more.

Second Day of Christmas

When I was a kid we had a few Christmases where my mom put out a plate with walnuts on it. We were encouraged to split the shell in two instead of just breaking them open. It sometimes made it a little difficult to scoop the nut out. In the end all the good opened walnuts lead to today's ornament.

Mom would take the nut, glue it together, put a handle on the top and paint it gold. We must have a dozen of the in a drawer.

On a related note we don't have a figurine nutcracker but I would always look at them when they were put out on store shelves. I would move their mouths and conclude that they would break if ever used.

First Day of Christmas

Today we unveil my idea for this year's Advent Calendar. I came up with this about a week ago and I hope it'll be a good change from last year.

This year I will show off 25 ornaments from my family's collection. Told you the theme would be cute. I had to scramble to get the first two ornaments ready for today and tomorrow so that should be half the fun.

Today's ornament is a simple Santa ornament. He has little button eyes and his hat folds to the side to show an evergreen branch with berries. The "beard" covers up most of his face.

Here's a link to a close up of the picture.

There you go. Hopefully I can find some rare stuff so it doesn't look like I'm just getting a check from Hallmark.

This Week In Entertainment (12/1/08)

My Pick of the Week is based entirely on the title. It's Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars for the Wii. No, the Mushroom Kingdom doesn't have dark secrets. Although that should be the plot of a Mario RPG.

Also out this week on DVD is this false advertisement. It says it's the Ultimate Casablanca set, but does it include Overdrawn at the Memory Bank? I think not.

I have yet to see the first Narnia movie on DVD. Maybe I can wait and get these movies in a set.

Not many believed
. But you can transfer this movie to an iPod Touch and start converting!

This is Saturday Night Live, Season Four. Are they really going to sell every season of this show on DVD? It's older than me.

I saw this exercise video pop up. Jeez, even I know you don't offer this to a woman for her birthday or Christmas.

I already have the Cinematic Titanic version of this, but here's Santa Claus Conquers the Martians remastered. I'd love to give my thoughts on that episode, but I'm saving it for Christmas.

I listened to the Jingle Cats cd. Not as great as jingle dogs I'm afraid.

My Fitness Coach is a Wii Fit like game that uses the balancing board. Again, bad timing for the release of it.

Finally, I don't like Space Invaders, but I like this title.
