This Week In Entertainment (12/10/07)

This week's Pick of the Day is the dvd for the fifth Harry Potter movie. You can see my jumbled thoughts about that movie here. Two more movies to go! Next up: Harry Potter and the What the Heck Does Snog Mean?

Also out on DVD is a few Disney collections. The first is Donald Duck's Chronological Adventures 3. I was once proud of the Donald Duck sounds I could make after watching a Disney behind the scenes feature.

Next up is the set for Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, the proto-Mickey Mouse. I was wincing when I read about this until I remembered that I was thinking of Warner Brother's Bosko. That gives me hope that Oswald isn't a "negro" character.

Last but not least is Disneyland: Secrets Story and Magic. I know it's hip (and fun, I'll admit) to bash Disney but I find this stuff interesting.

I've seen worse Santas in internet ads.

In books I'm outraged that no one asked me to contribute to this.

On the Virtual Console is Pokemon Snap, a game about taking pictures. I actually considered getting this back in the late nineties but thankfully I declinded.

Sunday, Lazy Sunday (4/15)

It's tax day. Do you know where your 1040s are?

I was flipping the channels today and I saw a Nats game on MASN. I was watching the tail end of it and the Nats pulled it out. I was excited until I saw the score updates that said that the Nats were postponed. It suddenly occured to me that other inconsistancies (some guy was said to be a rookie, when I remember him being around since the beginning) poined to the fact that this was a rerun of a game from a previous year. Blah.

My friend Lita has been showing me a feature at Somethingawful.com called Let's Play. It's a forum where people show themselves playing games while giving a running commentary or whatever. I've only seen two so far, and I'm watching the videos they have for Majora's Mask. If I ever run out of ideas for this blog, I could try stealing that idea. I'd rather stick to games pre-32 bit era, of course.

I have some other material too. Besides Killer Shrews which I have yet to watch, I could watch the colorized version of Plan Nine. It has a commentary by Mike Nelson and I've been wanting to see it.

I also have a cartoon show DVD set and I would like to poke fun at each episode by writing long reviews about them. (See websites like Jabootu.net or agonybooth.com) Sadly, that takes way too long to do so that won't be frequent.

I beat Twilight Princess yesterday. It's good, but I'm willing to bet that the next Zelda game for the Wii is going to be a big step forward. Something that will shake up the series.

Today I started replaying Majora's Mask.

Jeez, this entry did nothing to dispell the notion that all I post about is video games.

This Week in Entertainment (January 29th)

My Pick of the Week is the DVD release of Gymkata. I first heard about this movie as a running gag on Mystery Science Theater 3000, and I later saw it after Lita recommended it to me. Definitely a fun, cheesy movie from a cheesy era of movies. Everybody poins this out, but the best part of the movie is when the hero is surrounded by crazy murderers and he JUST HAPPENS to find a pommel horse. This allows him to break out his unique martial art style.

That's it as far as movies go. As for video games, there's no releases that interest me (but stay tuned for next week!) but the Wii Virtual Console is releasing two interesting games. The first is Super Mario Kart 64, which I never got. I played it in stores but it never interested me, and I'm a big fan of the original. Maybe I'll put it on my list of Virtual Console games I'd like to get, but maybe not for 1000 Wii poins. The other game (800 poins) is Comix Zone. I actually think there's many compilations that include this game at a much better deal. Still, despite the poor reviews this game got at the time, it seems to have its fans, plus it was kind of fun. Also a maybe.
