This Week In Entertainment (9/16/08)

My Pick of the Week is the second episode of Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People. I think the plot is about the King of Town taxing emails. I have yet to download the first chapter so I can't give my thoughts on these yet. The game is for the Virtual Console and is 1000 Wii poins.

Also out this week on DVD is this Charlie Chan set. One of the movies takes place in Panama. I bet a dollar that he visits the canal at some poin.

Here is the sixth season of Dragon Ball Z. Since it's the sixth season, I think they stop yelling and finally have their first fight.

Star Trek had a socialist utopia setting, but in order to enjoy it you have to shell out a lot of money for the dvd sets. That's ok, because here's another Best Of set that has alternate reality episodes from each series. It isn't just Mirror episodes, which is what I assumed from the dvd cover.

Here's the third season of the Smothers Brothers, a show that I liked watching as a kid if only for the Yo-yo Man stuff. I doubt I would enjoy it as much now because it was political for the time, but at least I'm sure they don't repeat the same jokes over and over again like "comedians" do today.

I may have only watched one episode or less of Duckman, but wasn't it just George Castanza as a cartoon character?

I used to watch the Chipmunks as a kid, and then I reached a poin where I completely rejected it. It doesn't help that the picture on this DVD set shows Alvin folding his arms and wearing his hat backwards. Does that ever work to convince kids that you're cool?

I'm only mentioning The Gold Diggers of 1937 because I think the title influenced the Three Stooges title The Termites of 1938. By the way, this movie was made during the Great Depression. Take a look at that cover and tell me if that could be made today.

This collection of rare serials were made before the depression, so I can only assume they all involve tying a woman to train tracks.

In theaters this week is Igor, a 3d animated movie. It should be cute, but I think these post-Pixar films have already played themselves out.

Coming out for the Wii this week is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Soon it will be known as "the Star Wars Wii game without MotionPlus."

On the DS is Dragon Quest/Warrior 4. I think it's a remake, so Final Fantasy isn't the only franchise by Square/Enix that's being milked with remakes.

Also coming out on the Virtual Console is Mega Man 2, probably the best game of the series. It has the most memorable boss stage music. 500 Wii poins.
