Music Video #42 (Day 12 of 2008)
Today's video is called Henry Lee and is sung by Nick Cave and the returning PJ Harvey. It's four minutes of something.
Hmm, there's not much going on in the video so I don't have much to go on.
We start with PJ and Nick Cave sitting next to each other. The video is minimalistic with only a dark background with green lighting and a bench. PJ Harvey looks a little different with her hair down and without the red lipstick. She also looks really really pale, but so does Nick so it must be the way they lighted the set.
PJ starts us off by singing about the title character. PJ and Nick do that thing where you can tell a couple really wants each other but they hold back and barely kiss. PJ sings is a girl who likes Henry Lee and thinks she's better than any other girl, so they should sleep together. Wow, right off the bat. This video is kinda steamy. Just look at her her hair. You get the feeling that the couple could give in at any moment.
Nick, as Henry Lee, sings back while almost kissing her. He tells her that he has another girl so he can't. PJ looks very hurt and I have to say, it does seem unfair for him to sing about not wanting her while simultaneously flirting. Meanwhile I'm looking at Nick Cave's forehead and wondering what it reminds me of. I think it's one of the agent bad guys from the Matrix movies.
Nick goes on about how the girl wanted at least one or two more kisses. But a ha! She really wanted to stab Henry Lee. Meanwhile, PJ is standing behind Nick giving him a back rub. Don't trust her! You got to be careful about women at all times!
PJ takes the next verse. Now that Henry Lee has met a fury that hell can't match, he's a corpse. While PJ rubs Nick's hands against her face, she sings about how the girl threw the corpse down a well. This kind of undercuts the sexiness of the video, song. I'm just saying.
PJ sings about how Henry Lee can rot as his girl will wait forever. Now it's become a song for stalkers. PJ and Nick start to dance. This is cute, but I think we're done with foreplay, so it's time to move on. The song ends with the couple kissing. Finally.
These two look great together. You can really believe they were a couple and they probably were. The song seems to contradict the video but is nice if you ignore the lyrics.
The awesome thing is that the girl made a mistake in deposing of her pen knife. It was found and an investigation eventually revealed Henry Lee's decaying body a few days later. Crime didn't pay, and this woman went to jail for a long time. So I heard.

That song blew. Not a fan.
Creepyness is what you get when you buy an album called "Murder Ballads."
I agree that PJ Harvey and Nick Cave have really strong chemistry. It's why I picked this video. You really could believe they are in love. I have no idea what relationships they may or may not have in real life. I could wiki it, but that would cross some line of nerdiness that I just don't want to touch.
