Take that, Rifftrax!

Rifftrax may have a head start, Mike, Kevin, and Bill, and it may riff more recent mainstream movies, but Cinematic Titanic has one thing that Rifftrax doesn't have, (besides help from ILM*): silhouettes! Take that, Disembaudio!

Actually, I just realized that the CT website already posted a teaser picture showing this, but I never realized it was a part of the episode. Apparently since they can't just directly copy from MST3k, our five performers are going to riff from balconies from each side. Some of our performers can just sit but anybody can become really animated now.

In other MST3k news, the mst3k website hasn't posted any new things in a while. Hopefully they're taking time to make the cartoon better. Or whatever. At least come up with some cool new merchandise.

* This is why it was so interesting why Rifftrax did the Star Wars Holiday Special. It was almost like a swipe at CT.

As much as I love the old MST3K days, this TITANIC project simply costs too much. A burned DVD in a sleeve for $15? Come on. I would consider paying $10-$12 for a pressed DVD in a substantial case with extras. I buy every PIXAR movie for about that much. I won’t be buying this project at this price.

I predict piracy will damage sales to the point at which Joel and company will throw in the towel early. There won’t even be 12 episodes of CINEMATIC TITANIC completed. A lower price would have been so much more realistic. If they sold 10,000 copies at $8, each writer/performer might clear a couple thousand an episode.

That’s not great show-biz money, but aside from Joel it’s probably more than the other people involved have been making lately.

You know I never thought about it from the financial angle. I was just going for the obvious nerdy angle.

There was a survey that you could participate in if you signed up to the CT newsletter. They mentioned a possibility where you could sign up for a years worth of CT for a smaller fee. I'm hoping that The Oozing Skull is just at a pilot price, and they provide a cheaper option for the future.
