Music Video #71 (Day 11 of 2009)

Today's music video is available in high quality. It's No Distance Left to Run by Blur.

This video starts with a minute of an interview with one of the band members. We see him from four different squares which makes us wonder if we're watching Timecode. Actually, it's two members and they discuss how they feel about the upcoming video. They're going to actually sleep during the video and they're going to shoot the video in the dark. A couple squares show them preparing for sleep and one band member announces that it's time.

So our video proper starts inside a dark house lit by flash lights. It's like watching a cheap ghost hunter show. Some guys climb a staircase and we get our first voyeur shot of one of the band members sleeping. I'm guessing this camera has an inverse color feature.

The song quickly gets to the point. It's slow and sad, and the very first line is "It's over." Not only are the singer and his girlfriend broken up, but she's already with another guy. Ouch. The poor guy still has feelings for her but wishes her the best. Singer even hints at darker stuff as he says that he wants his ex to now feel "safe" now that he's out of the picture. It wasn't fun for him either.

Singer even advises her to ignore him. He will just mess up her future. During the breakdown we see one of the guys sleeps on his stomach. Hey, you'll hurt your back. Believe me.

Final verse plays and singer repeats much of the first one. He wishes his ex to get on with her life. We conclude by seeing one of the two rub the hell out of his face.

The music ends, but the video continues with a post interview. One of the two guys is awoken and asked what the meaing of the video is. He yawns and doesn't say anything until just about the clip is over. He says the song is sad, and it's a warning and gentle reminder. Wow, that tells me a lot. I think he should have rolled over.

This song is about a warning and is a gentle rem....

Nah, that's the easy way out. This song is just a sad song about a failed relationship. The singer is encouraging the ex to move on and is saying that it wouldn't have worked anyway. There was no where left to go, as the title suggests. The video shows the men sleeping alone in the dark and it matches the melancholy tone. This is a good if depressing song. Definitely for those nights where you're in a bad mood.

The awesome part of this video is the night vision goggles that we briefly see at the beginning of the video.

The awesome thing in this video is that it was kind of cool to watch somebody sleeping... right until the phrase "creepy pervert cam" jumped into my mind. Now YOU TO can experience what it's like to stalk your favorite rock band!

This is true. I was watching the FA video where they play QWOP (http://www.freelanceastronauts.com/view.php?id=656) and somebody made a quick throwaway reference to this song and I thought, "Aww, poor Tork won't get that line." And that is the entire reason I picked this video. I'm pretty thrilled that Tork liked this song, considering I picked it for the flimsiest of flimsy reasons. Of course, I like the song, too.

New song! Tork does not have enough weirdness in his life:
